Using the body weight and gravity for resistance, Pilates Mat Work improves structural alignment and postural habits, therefore reducing joint strains, chronic muscle tension and stress.
The Pilates Mat Work training is offered in four progressive levels, each level building upon the skills achieved in the previous level:
Each level consists of a series of 10 classes.
The Introduction to Mat Work is designed to prepare the body for the rigors of the classical Pilates Mat Work and to initiate the use of the Pilates principles into habitual movement patterns. Levels I and II aim to gradually build the skills that are necessary to perform all 34 mat exercises that comprises Mat Work Level III.
Training in the Pilates method must be seen as a process in which the body is educated through bio-mechanically sound, well-designed exercise sequences. Understanding that the body needs time to adjust to the concepts introduced at each level is part of this process. Therefore, the completion of one series of classes will lead to the next level only if all exercises at the current level are performed correctly.
